Dr. Desmyter slaagde met grootste onderscheiding voor de opleiding arts aan de faculteit geneeskunde van de Universiteit Gent (2001) en doorliep daarna de opleiding tot arts-specialist in Orthopedische heelkunde en Traumatologie (01/08/07).

Daarnaast volgde hij nog extra opleidingen tot arts-specialist in Verzekeringsgeneeskunde en Medische Expertise (10/03/09) en management voor de Ziekenhuisprofessional (Vlerick Business School, 2017 – ‘18).

Het expertise gebied van dr. Desmyter is de voet- en enkelchirurgie.

Naast de algemene orthopedie, heeft hij vooral kennis en ervaring in de pathologie van de voet en de enkel: zowel in eerste, tweede als derde lijn. Daarbij behandelt hij ook complexe standafwijkingen en worden protheses van de enkel geplaatst.

Verder heeft hij een speciale interesse en lange ervaring in complexe of slecht helende breuken.

Dr. Desmyter beoogt een overall management van voet- en enkelproblemen, gaande van eenvoudige adviezen tot de meest complexe chirurgische interventies, inclusief zeer nieuwe en hoogtechnologische toepassing (endoscopie, minimaal invasieve technieken, gepersonaliseerde instrumenten en complexe reconstructies).

Dr. Desmyter tracht steeds het hele probleem op te lossen, waarbij de patiënt begeleid wordt doorheen het volledige zorgtraject. Een sterke focus ligt op het ontzorgen van de patiënt.

Zijn enthousiasme voor wetenschappelijk onderzoek en innovatieve technieken leidde tot een tiental publicaties en presentatie op tientallen internationale conferenties.
